Superstructure & Glazing

Groundwork & Foundations

Whilst we cannot predict the topographical features of your chosen location, our buildings are designed to work with a wide range of groundwork solutions, enabling them to be located almost anywhere, including steep slopes or even over water.

Compatible with screw jacks, stilts, piling, floating rafts and a more traditional slab, the chassis of the building is rigid, lightweight and able to be positioned even in locations with limited access.

In most scenarios, either an insulated floating raft or a traditional slab would be the solution, and due to the lightweight nature of our chassis, our foundations are typically 60% of the depth of a standard structure, providing the strongest base, minimising disruption and cost.

Given Eden Arc’s focus on sustainability, we prefer to use a reduced carbon concrete solution. Supplied by Heidelberg Materials, evoBuild Low Carbon concrete which replaces a large percentage of the cement usually used with a byproduct of steel manufacturing. This enhances the durability and strength of concrete while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Eden Arc will work with you to select the most suitable foundation type. We will provide all relevant drawings and instructions, including those for utilities connections, for you to carry out prior to construction of the building.

Superstructure & Chassis

All Eden Arc buildings are designed to be erected and watertight in under four weeks on site. To achieve this we use a lightweight steel frame within a SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) chassis, providing incredible strength and stability combined with superior insulation compared to traditional builds.

We have selected a cutting edge SIPs system that is far more sustainable than standard, using Magnesium Oxide (MGO) components. Made from waste magnesium, these panels provide a strong inner and outer skin that is both waterproof and fire resistant, whilst at the same time being 100% natural and recyclable.

The floor, walls and roof are all insulated to levels well above building control standards and help to provide highly sustainable structure.

A fully recyclable lightweight metal frame internal wall structure, combined with acoustic insulation, is used throughout our designs, providing services routes (power, data and water) to any part of the building.

Glazing & Access

All Eden Arc designs incorporate a back-to-nature ethos, with full width flush-threshold glazing elevations, providing a seamless flow from the outside-in, maximising the openable sections and achieveing high glazing to frame ratios.

We use smooth glide, thin framed aluminium sliding door systems with UV treated glazing as standard, as well as tilt and open full height windows.

Using aluminium allows us to maintain high levels of sustainability – aluminium is fully recyclable and also allows for the thinnest frames and the most striking glazing elevations.

Our UV treated double glazing works to maintain a consistent internal temperature – both for heat loss and gain. Our buildings can also be specified with triple glazing and alternative technology to achieve higher EPC and Passivehaus ratings (see the Environmental section).

When working with you, we will seek to clarify the energy standards you wish to reach with your building. Our standard glazing package, when combined with a renewable power source, will achieve EPC B.
